Nazir Ahmed Qureshi, Karachi, 1961
Passport photograph of Nazir Ahmed Qureshi, taken in Karachi on 18 December 1961.
Nazir Ahmed’s older brother, affectionately known as Jee, and his younger brother, Bashir Ahmed, affectionately known as Pa, were both due to come to the UK. Nazir Ahmed, shared their wanderlust, and wanted to go travel with his brothers, but his father didn’t want all his sons to relocate.
Nazir Ahmed ran away to Karachi to have his passport made. Jee and Nazir then convinced their dad to let Nazir go with them. It is a family joke that Nazir was very skinny in this photograph, because he ran all the way to Karachi.
