Gem Harris and family, Christmas Day c.1988

Gem Harris, wearing red on Christmas day, sat with her two daughters after Christmas dinner. All three of Gem’s children still live in Bradford, but the whole family visited Gem’s homeland Jamaica in 2024. Since living in Bradford and raising her family here, Gem has never thought about moving back to Jamaica, despite encountering challenges settling in a new country she says, ‘you can’t miss home, you just had to get on with it’.
