Laima Grinbergs and wedding party, Little Horton Lane, 1951
Mičošana, an ancient Latvian wedding tradition transferring the bride to wifehood, taking place after the wedding of Laima Grinbergs.
As part of the tradition, the bride is saying farewell to the single women in the wedding party. Songs are sung and rituals performed, including replacing the bride’s veil with the offer of a wife’s bonnet or cap. The tradition is to refuse the first two bonnets and accept the third.
