Leaving party, Pollard Lane, 1981

This photograph shows a leaving party for family members Michael and Heather, taken just before the couple emigrated to South Africa. The family didn’t know how long they would be saying goodbye for – many told the pair they wouldn’t last long in 1980s South Africa, but they planned to never come home. After six months in South Africa they returned to Bradford.
